The site you see here was originally launched in early 1998. It did well to stand the test of time, but in reality it was always a fairly untogether thing that evolved on its own.

Now we have nearly (after trying to find some time in the last 6 months) finished the all new, glistening, ready for this millennium Paradox Cafe Universal.

ICQ with No 'IQ'

The one thing the web has done in recent years for the rest of the world, is to increase the likelihood of talking to an American. This can have some amusing consequences as we shall see.

Using the popular ICQ chat software from Mirabilis, one is able to randomly select willing participants for 'chat' - [For those who don't know ICQ, this is not 'chat' in the verbal sense, but in fact 'typing on your keyboard frantically without making much sense'. It amounts to the same thing really.]

When you are selected by someone else for Random Chat, neither party knows who the other is; like a kind of blind date. This is important, OK? You cannot see the other person, and you do not know who they are and vica versa.

So.. One day I was selected by someone for a Random Chat (without them knowing who I was, and in the secure knowledge, one would think, that I did not know who they were). It went like this:

Well that was the end of that conversation. But how did she know that I hadn't seen her before?
